President William Ruto has finalized his Cabinet appointments, naming the remaining Cabinet Secretaries in a recent announcement. According to Kenyan law, the President is permitted to appoint a minimum of 15 and a maximum of 22 Cabinet Secretaries.
Last week, President Ruto appointed 10 Cabinet Secretaries, including Prime CS and CS for Foreign Affairs, Musalia Mudavadi. The latest appointments fill the remaining vacancies, completing the Cabinet formation.
The newly appointed Cabinet Secretaries are:
- National Treasury: John Mbadi
- Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports: Kipchumba Murkomen
- Cooperatives and MSME Development: Wycliffe Oparanya
- Gender, Culture, Arts and Heritage: Stella Langa’t
- Tourism and Wildlife: Rebecca Miano
- Energy and Petroleum: Opiyo Wandayi
- Public Service: Justin Muturi
- Investments, Trade and Industry: Salim Mvurya
- Labour and Social Protection: Alfred Mutua
- Mining and Blue Economy: Hassan Joho
The President’s earlier appointments included key positions such as:
- Ministry of the Interior and National Administration: Kithure Kindiki
- Ministry of Health: Debra Mulongo Barasa
- Ministry of Defence: Soipan Tuya
- Ministry of Roads and Transport: Davis Chirchir
- Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Forestry: Aden Duale
- Ministry of Water, Sanitation and Irrigation: Eric Muga
- Ministry of Education: Julius Migosi
- Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development: Alice Wahome
- Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development: Dr. Andrew Karanja
- Ministry of Information, Communication and the Digital Economy: Dr. Margaret Ndungu
Rebecca Miano, initially named as the new Attorney General, has been reassigned to the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife. The Attorney General’s position and the East African Community docket remain vacant.
Notably, the new appointments include prominent figures from various political backgrounds, including Hassan Joho for Mining and Wycliffe Oparanya for Cooperatives. This diverse Cabinet is expected to help the administration deliver on its agenda.
