Dadaab MP Farah Maalim was expelled from Sarovah Whitesands Beach Resort in Mombasa after a viral video showed him making controversial remarks against Gen z protesters.
The hotel’s Managing Director, Jimi Kariuki, announced the decision following online backlash.
In the video, Maalim, speaking in Somali, stated that if he were President, he would have “slaughtered 5,000 young protesters daily” for attempting to march to State House during anti-finance Bill protests.
Maalim claims the video was edited to misrepresent his words.
Kenyans on X slashed the hotel management for hosting the member of parliament.
In response, Kariuki responded through his X account:
“Good evening. He is no longer a guest at our hotel. We asked him to leave the hotel earlier in the day. We do not in any way condone his inflammatory and threatening statemnets against Kenyans and will not associate our brand with such a person.”
The Wiper party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) has distanced itself from Maalim’s remarks and has called for his removal from the party.
The National Cohesion and Integration Commission (NCIC) has so far summoned Maalim to explain his comments.
