President William Ruto of Kenya has dismissed his entire cabinet

In a significant political move, President William Ruto of Kenya has dismissed his entire cabinet, retaining only the Vice President and the office of Foreign Affairs. This decision is part of a broader cabinet reshuffle aimed at optimizing government performance and enhancing the delivery of the administration’s goals. Notably, Foreign Minister Alfred Mutua has been reassigned to the Ministry of Tourism and Wildlife, while the Foreign Ministry’s responsibilities have been consolidated under Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi (EconAfrica) (Tuko.co.ke – Kenya news.).

This reshuffle comes amid ongoing nationwide protests over the high cost of living and recent tax hikes. Since assuming office in August 2022, President Ruto has faced criticism for policies perceived as detrimental to the common Kenyan, especially his tax increases on essential commodities like petrol and housing. These measures have sparked discontent among the populace, leading to widespread demonstrations. Critics argue that Ruto’s administration has failed to deliver on its promises to support the economically disadvantaged “hustlers” who form a significant part of his voter base (EconAfrica) (Tuko.co.ke – Kenya news.).

Adding to the complex political landscape in Kenya is the rising influence of the Gen-Z generation. Young Kenyans are increasingly vocal about their dissatisfaction with the status quo, leveraging social media and other digital platforms to mobilize and advocate for change. This demographic is driving a revolution in political engagement, demanding greater transparency, accountability, and policies that address their specific needs and aspirations. Their activism has been instrumental in organizing protests and bringing international attention to local issues (EconAfrica).

The Gen-Z revolution in Kenya underscores a broader trend of youth empowerment and political activism across the continent. As these young people continue to push for reforms, they are reshaping the political landscape and challenging traditional power structures. This generational shift is not only influencing current political dynamics but also setting the stage for future leadership in Kenya and beyond. The ongoing cabinet reshuffle by President Ruto can be seen as a response to these pressures, aiming to stabilize his administration while addressing the demands of a rapidly changing society (EconAfrica) (Tuko.co.ke – Kenya news.).
