A section of Gen z took to the streets of Eldoret on Wednesday rallying in support of the re-appointment of former Roads Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to the Cabinet.
The protest comes a few days after a section of youths in the town cut a cake in celebration of Murkomen’s dismissal from cabinet.
Carrying placards emblazoned with messages of support for the CS, the youths marched along Kisumu Road, making their way toward the town’s central business district.
Their journey, however, was halted near Brookside Dairy by local police forces, who swiftly moved in to disperse the crowd.
“We urge the President to re-appoint Murkomen because he has proven his capability and dedication. His work speaks for itself,” one of the leaders of the group stated.
According to the protestors, the former CS has delivered to their expectation and want the president to reconsider reappointing him.
The youth expressed their solidarity with the President’s assertion that recent nationwide protests had been influenced by international NGOs, including the Ford Foundation.
After delivering a series of impassioned speeches, the group chose to disperse peacefully, avoiding further confrontation with the authorities.
The youths’ chants clearly demonstrated their political alignment and support for President William Ruto amidst nationwide protests by other Gen Z youths demanding the president’s resignation.
