Kenya’s Ambassador to Austria Hassan Wario and athletics legend Kipchoge Keino were on Thursday arrested after turning themselves in to police over Sh.55 millioio Rio Olympics scandal.
Wario (former Sports CS) and Keino surrendered to the DCI as directed by the court on Wednesday.
Two other suspects, who responded to the orders, were also arrested. The lot is expected in court on Friday to face various counts of graft.
The former CS and NOCK president were given up to today (Thursday) to surrender or face arrest.
DPP Noordin Haji said the two have a case to answer in the scandal . Haji approved the prosecution of the two and five others.
Former Sports PS Richard Ekai and two ex-senior officials in the ministry on Monday denied graft charges arising from the scandal.
The two are former director of administration Harrun Komen and ex-NOCK secretary general Francis Kanyili.
They appeared before Chief Magistrate Douglas Ogot following their arrest as ordered by the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The trio faced six counts of abuse of office and four counts of willful failure to comply with the law relating to the management of public funds.
The lot are linked to embezzlement of Sh22.5 million; Sh16.8 million in underutilised air tickets; Sh15.9 million in overpaid allowances; and Sh6.5 million expenditure on unauthorised persons.
Ekai and his co-accused were released on a Sh2 million bond each or Sh1 million bail.
