Victims of Mombasa Likoni Ferry tragedy identified

Rescuers are still searching for three victims of Mombasa Likoni Channel accident whose vehicle plunged into the Indian Ocean on Sunday.

The authorities have identified a 35-year-old woman, Mariam Kighenda and her two daughters as the missing victims, as divers continue with the search.

One of her daughters, a four-year-old has been identified as Amanda Wambua.

Videos circulated showed their grey saloon car floating half-way on the ocean as it sunk within seconds amid screams from onlookers.

The Kenya Ferry Services said the cause of the accident could not be immediately established.

By Monday neither the wreckage of the car nor the three occupants have been retrieved.
