Shock as death toll from murder raises to 6, less than a month

Kenyans are living in shock following the recent brutal killings witnessed across the country with at least 6 deaths reported in less than a month.

The statistics could be higher than imagined as most cases may go unreported, though government agencies are currently probing at least 5 public cases.

Police have launched investigation of another woman found murdered in Nakuru county on Wednesday 26 as wave of killings increase.

A naked body of a middle-aged woman was found dumped along the Naivasha-Gilgil railway line, the second incident reported in one week.

This being the latest murder only adds to the increasing wave of killings targeting women in most parts of the country in less than three weeks.

Before dust could settle, a form Four student was found dead just days before starting the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education on Monday 24.

The body of Elvinah Moracha, 17, was found dumped in a fish pond belonging to a villager and located less than a kilometre from their home at Mariba village in Bomachoge Borabu, Kisii County.

Nobody has been arrested in connection with the murder making the matter even worse.

On September 21, in Kilimani, Nairobi a body of a 29-year-old Monica Kimani whose throat was cut was found dumped in a bathtub.

The suspect, Joe Irungu, who is a fiancee to Citizen TV news anchor Jackie Maribe denied the charges and was remanded at Lang’ata police station.

Another reported incident was of Maribel Kapolon, a nine-year-old girl who could have been murdered due to love gone sour between her mother and a lover.

Little Kapolon, the daughter of Caroline Kemei a Senior Resident Magistrate at Githongo Law Courts, Meru, disappeared on Thursday, September 6, when returning home from school, only for her body to be found dumped in Gitoro Forest.

Sharon Otieno a 26-year old Rongo University student was tortured and mutilated with her seven-month-old baby being ripped from her womb on September 3.

Migori governor Okoth Obado the major suspect  appeared before the Court and denied charges that linked him with the murder of his pregnant girlfriend Sharon Otieno in Homa Bay.

Days after Sharon Otieno’s body was found dumped at Kodera forest in Homabay County, another woman’s body was discovered in Kakamega forest.

The body of Dorice Musiya (22) was found mutilated by two women who had gone to fetch firewood in the tropical rainforest on September 10.

These are only reported cases but statistics could be higher as most cases go unreported.

The current death toll is a matter that need to be addressed and the Court must do something ‘big’ to deal with the culprits.
