Activist Okiya Omtatah
Activist Okiya Omtatah on Friday moved to court to challenge President Uhuru Kenyatta’s reforms in the police sector.
In a case filed at Milimani High Court, Omtatah argues that the reforms are unconstitutional because only the Inspector General of Police has the power to issue uniforms.
President Uhuru Kenyatta on Thursday announced police reforms and unveiled new police uniforms for General Deputy Officers.
“The uniform will enhance better visibility for the officers,” the President said as the uniforms were showcased at the Kenya School of Government.

The president directed Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet to implement the changes with immediate effect and ordered the Treasury to operationalize the financial provisions for the same.
Omtatah stated that the changes were made without public participation and the restructuring cannot be effected immediately.
Earlier, the changes were received negatively by Kenyans with majority complaining that the change in uniform will do little to fight problems Kenyans are currently facing.
