Ainabkoi Member of Parliament William Chepkut has dismissed former Jubilee Party vice-chairman David Murathe’s threats to block Deputy President William Ruto from vying for presidency.
In a post on his official Facebook page, Chepkut, an ally to Ruto said nobody can stop the DP Ruto from seeking to succeed President Uhuru Kenyatta, not even the courts.
“Which constitution is David Murathe reading? Someone remind him that the only way to stop this is by VOTING! William Samoei Ruto has a right to pursue his political ambitions legally, in one way or another, William Ruto will vie for the presidency, not David Murathe or any courts can stop him,” the post reads.
Murathe has vowed to battle Ruto and has promised to go to the apex court to bar Ruto from vying for the country’s top seat in 2022.
He has remained firm on his stand insisting that Ruto should retire from politics in 2022 at the time when president Uhuru Kenyatta will be leaving the office after serving for two terms.
Murathe who has since resigned as the vice chairman for the Jubilee party is considered a close ally to President Kenyatta and his remarks has sparked a wave of divisions between DP Ruto’s allies and those allied to the head of state.
