A man has placed an advert on one of the local dailies showing an interest in becoming Nairobi’s Deputy Governor.
Philip Sogot Chepsat placed the advert titled ‘Expression of Interest -Deputy Governor of Nairobi County on Wednesday, August 14.
“I Philip Sogoti Chepsat, a voter and a resident of Nairobi, request governor Mike Sonko Mbuvi, to appoint me as his deputy. I am a university graduate with over 15 years’ experience in public service,” read part of the advert.
According to Philip, he had already tried reaching out to the Nairobi Governor but was not sure if his request had reached him, thus resulting in putting up an advert.
“Hon. Sonko, I have reached out to you openly because I am not sure if my earlier communication did reach you. I also know that you cherish openness and transparency, “he continued.
Governor Sonko has been running the County on his own for more than a year after the resignation of Polycarp Igathe on Wednesday, January 31, 2018.
I write to resign my seat as the elected Deputy Governor of Nairobi City County effective 1 pm, Wednesday, January 31, 2018. Serving Kenyans, in Nairobi under your leadership, has been a high honor and distinct privilege. I am grateful to Nairobians and yourself for giving me the opportunity to serve. Thank you, and please accept my highest personal regards, wrote Igathe in his resignation letter.
At one point the governor said he was fine running Nairobi on his own but later posted four candidates for the position.
The four female candidates the Sonko had appointed included former Starehe MP Margaret Wanjiru, gender activist and insurance executive Agnes Kagure as well as lawyers Karen Nyamu and Jane Weru.
