Shock has gripped the athletic community in Nyahururu after a Korean athlete collapsed and died on Sunday.
Yoo Byungwo was participating in the second edition of Nyahururu ten kilometer road race when he collapsed.
Ken Kasmili who was running alongside the 61 year-old said that he collapsed at Sironi area.
He said that they took him to Nyahururu charity medical hospital where he was pronounced dead.
“He was well when we started the race until when we approached Sironi area when he started shaking. He stopped abruptly and within some time he fell down and collapsed,” he noted.
He said that they called for a vehicle and took him to the hospital where he was pronounced dead.
“He has been here for the last two days and has never complained of any illness. We are waiting for a postmortem report so as to know the cause of death,” said Kasmil.
Nyandarua North OCPD Timon Odingo who confirmed the incident said that the cause of death had not been established.
The body was moved to Nyahururu county hospital Mortuary.
