KNEC cancels results for 100 KCSE students

One hundred KCSE students will not get their results Education Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed stated on Friday.

The CS said the results were cancelled over examination irregularities.

Kenya National Examination Council (KNEC) is also withholding the results “of some centres” which will be notified when the results are released according to Amina.

“In the meantime, KNEC will finalise investigations into suspected malpractices and will release a report on the same on or before January 31, 2019,” said CS Amina.

“I wish to assure the nation, affected candidates and parents that due diligence will be undertaken to ensure that no candidate is unfairly penalised.”

During the examination 119 people, including candidates, were arrested and arraigned in court for various offences according to CS Amina

Amina announced that there  were no exam leakage during the examination period due to combined effort of the multi-agency team, however, cases of early exposure, impersonation, possession of unauthorised and illegal material as well as collusion were reported in some examination centres.

“Most of these cases were detected and dealt with on the spot, thereby preserving the integrity of the examination,” said Amina.

The CS stated that the results will be collected from the sub-county Director of Education offices by the respective schools after which the candidates will pick them up from their various examination centres.

Individual candidate results can also be accessed by sending a candidate’s index number to Short Message Service (SMS) line 20076.
