Former Nairobi Governor Dr. Evans Kidero

Former Nairobi Governor Evans Kidero has been arrested by the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission following a corruption investigation involving an irregular payment of Sh 68-million-shillings to a law firm during his tenure.

Kidero was arrested on Friday morning alongside George Wainaina who served as his Chief of Staff and two other officials.

The Director of Public Prosecutions Noordin Haji said he has approved the arrest and prosecution of 17 officials over the payment to Wachira Mburu, Mwangi and Company Advocates.

Among those wanted include former Mayor John Ndirangu, former Councilor Mutunga Mutungi and a former accountant Hannah Muthoni Kariuki who is listed to have received Sh11 million from the loot.

The DPP says the suspects will face five charges, among them money laundering, abuse of office and unlawful acquisition of public property.

In September last year, Kidero was arrested and charged with conspiracy to commit an offence of corruption that led to the loss of Sh213 million.
