The late Ken Okoth’s body will be cramated at a private function in Nairobi, his family has announced.
After a meeting with the family, former Prime Minister Raila Odinga announced that the body will be transported to Kasipul Kabondo constituency on Saturday.
A funeral service will be held at Rateng’ Secondary School at 10am after which the family will be allowed to perform the final rights.
“Ken will be given to the family to do the rest…just like we did with Kenneth Matiba…so the family will do the rest,” said Raila.
The body of former presidential candidate Kenneth Matiba was cremated at a private function in line with his wishes.
Raila’s announcement comes even as Okoth’s family is entangled in a tussle over whether to cremate or bury the body.
His wife Monica is for cremation, saying he verbally communicated his wishes as such.
However, Okoth’s mother, Angeline Ajwang’ is against the idea and has threatened to boycott the process if cremation is chosen. She wants her son be buried in her home in Kasewe, Homa Bay county.
His paternal family also wishes to bury the MP next to his father who was interred at Kanyachir Amocho village, Kochia, Rangwe sub county.
A memorial service was on Wednesday held for former Okoth at Starehe Boys Centre.
Okoth succumbed to late-diagnosed colorectal cancer on Friday last week at the Nairobi Hospital.
