Lawrence Cherono won the Boston Marathon men’s race Monday by the slimmest of margins.
A three-person race down the stretch on Boylston Street turned into a two-man, all-out sprint, and Cherono, of Kenya, emerged in front of Lelisa Desisa.
Unofficially, Cherono’s time was 2″07.50, while Desisa clocked a 2:08.00. Kenneth Kipkemoi faded in the final 300 yards and placed third in 2:08.06.
Scott Fauble, in seventh, and Jared Ward, in eighth, were the top American finishers, crossing in 2:09.10 and 2:09.25, respectively.
More to come…
