“I support Raila on Referendum”, Moses Kuria

Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria

A renown and vibrant Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has said he supports the move by Raila Odinga to push for referendum.

He said the current Constitution needed to be amended to reduce number of legislative and nominated seats.

“I agree with Raila the 2010 Constitution needs to be changed. These changes are about reducing burden for Wanjiku (ordinary citizens). Its about reducing elective and nominated positions not adding positions. Its not about adding the position of a prime minister or creating a parliamentary system. I hope you get this clearly,” Kuria said in a Facebook post.

The legislator was however categorical and said that the amendment of the supreme law needed to be hinged on reducing elective and nominated positions and not creating other political offices.

According to Kuria the plebiscite needed to be conducted in 2022 to save the country resources and allow government time to fulfill its pledges to the public.

Raila wants the referendum soon ahead of 2022 General Election for what he says was part of his handshake deal with President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Kuria is a renown critic of opposition leader Raila Odinga and has always opposed Raila’s proposals.

He said he will engage Raila to have the referendum vote included as seventh ballot in 2022 General Election.
