The move by the government to increase the 16 percent value added tax on petroleum products is on debate whether the government will find out other measures to fight the current financial crisis.

The move has raised mixed reactions with majority terming the government to be raiding from its citizens’ pockets by imposing high taxation.

This comes amid High Court order to stop temporarily the 16 percent value added tax on petroleum products terming the outcome will affect common citizens.  The uncertainty still remain whether the government would obey the Court’s order.
