
Five people died and nine others were injured on Monday morning after a matatu collided with a trailer at Kapiti area on the Mombasa-Nairobi highway.
According to Machakos County Commissioner Abdullahi Galgalo, the accident involved a church van and a lorry.
“The accident occurred after a church van that was headed towards Mombasa collided head-on with a truck approaching Nairobi,” he said.
The 14-seater matatu was ferrying Akorino church faithful for a tour to Mombasa after a crusade in Siaya County when the vehicle collided head-on with the Nairobi-bound truck.
I was not clear what caused the collision.
The deceased were ferried to the Machakos Level 5 hospital mortuary while the injured rushed to hospital for treatment.
