Sharon Otieno, Miguna Miguna top Google trends 2018

Murdered Rongo University student Sharon Otieno and controversial lawyer Miguna Miguna were the top searched personalities in 2018 according to Google trends released on Monday night.

Migori Governor Okoth Obado and two others, Michael Oyamo and Caspal Obiero are facing charges in connection to the murder.

Obado who admitted to having a relationship with Sharon, drew curiosity of Kenyans online. He came in sixth position among the most searched local personalities.

On the other hand, Miguna trended after he was deported forcibly to Canada by the government.

Miguna was deported on February 6 following the swearing-in of ODM leader Raila Odinga as the people’s President on January 30 at Uhuru Park.

He was accompanied by Ruaraka MP TJ Kajwang, who administered the oath and Siaya Senator and lawyer James Orengo.

Miguna stamped the documents during the inauguration.

Citizen TV journalist Jacques Maribe came in third place.

Maribe trended after she was charged with the murder of businesswoman Monica Kimani in September.

She faces the charges with her co- accused, Joseph ‘Jowie’ Irungu.

She, however, won reprieve after the court released her on Sh1 million bail on October 30.

Other local personalities who were on the top list of Google searches were Embakasi East MP Babu Owino, Kirinyaga Deputy Governor Peter Ndambiri who trended after a video of him naked with an unidentified woman surfaced in April, murdered businesswoman Monica Kimani and musician Joseph Kamaru who died in October.

Manchester United’s Alexis Sanchez also dominated the top 10 searches as fans followed news around his speculated departure from Old Trafford and strained relationship with manager Jose Mourinho.

Kenyans also went online to search for results of the 2018 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams.

Samantha, an interactive sex-doll, was the sixth most-looked-searched for topic in Kenya, as internet users sought information on how it works, looks and its country of manufacture.
