1 Dead, 6 Injured Following Fiery Crash On Brooklyn Bridge

One person is dead and six others are injured following fiery crash early Wednesday morning on the Brooklyn Bridge.

The flames broke out around 7:15 a.m. in the right lane of the Brooklyn-bound span, sending thick smoke into the air.

One of the surviving victims was taken to the hospital in stable condition. The others were treated at the scene.

All lanes of traffic weren’t fully reopened until after 1 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.

“I’m feeling terrible. I have to get my wife to work, and it’s not a good feeling at all,” driver Garnet Walters told CBS2’s Natalie Duddridge.

“I waited around an hour and a half,” another driver said. “It’s very bad news for everybody.”

Emergency responders rushed to the scene as firefighters worked to put out the flames.

Police diverted cars off the bridge, rerouting Brooklyn-bound drivers back to Manhattan and directing others to alternate crossing. Traffic was delayed in some areas for two hours. Some people even got out of their cabs and started walking.

The Wednesday morning commute was particularly busy due to the Thanksgiving rush.
