Police officer kills himself in Bomet

An Administration Police officer attached to Lukumek police station in Bomet County on Thursday committed suicide by shooting himself.

While confirming the incident, Bomet County commandant Naomi Ichami said the officer, who was deployed as a report officer, died after shooting himself on the head using a G3 rifle.

“A senior officer who was clocking out had assigned some duties to the deceased leaving him alone at the station, moments later, gun shots were heard and the deceased was found dead in the office,” said Ichami.

Senior police officers who rushed to the scene recovered one spent cartridge and three live ammunition still lodged in the chamber of the rifle.

His colleagues, who described him as a jovial person, termed the incident as shocking and heartbreaking.

“We still do not know why he decided to take his life,” said Ichami.

The body was moved to the Longisa County Referral Hospital morgue.
