Two Kenya Commercial Bank top employees were arrested on Saturday 22 over theft of more than Sh20 million.
The suspects are employees of Wundanyi KCB bank in Wundanyi town, Taita Taveta county.
Wundanyi KCB Branch has reported to have lost over Ksh. 20 million connecting the two with the theft.
The suspects were taken to Wundanyi Police Station and remanded.
Confirming the incident Mwatate OCPD Monica Kimani said she has confirmed the theft and added the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) is handling the issue.
She said that the investigation into the matter has been launched.
Further reports from Bank insiders indicate that the two suspects were the custodians of the keys to the strong room of the bank. “One of them is a safe attendant while the other has a code to the strong room. No one has access to the strong room except the two and we are interrogating them in connection with the theft incident,” said a worker who chosed to remain anonymous.
The mysterious disappearance of the money at Wundanyi KCB Branch has baffled the bank authorities and the security apparatus who had intensified investigations into the theft incident.
The incident comes at a time when many questions were being raised about how such a huge amount of money could find its way out despite the heavy presence of security personnel attached to the bank in Wundanyi town, Taita Taveta County.
